Term One Religious Educators’ Professional Learning Day
Digging for Wisdom

The ASC warmly invites all Religious Educators, Chaplains and Librarians to a special day of learning, sharing and collaborating with colleagues.

We are thrilled to announce that the Dean of Grafton, The Rev’d Dr Greg Jenks, theologian, historian, archaeologist and most generous supporter of all Anglican Schools will take us on a fabulous adventure as we learn how we can use archaeology in our classes. Please join us and extend this invitation to all who teach religious education in your school, even if they only teach one class.

Date: Friday 12 February 2021

Location: Old Bishopsbourne, St Francis Theological College, Milton

Time: 8:15am – 2:30pm

Cost: Full day $50

Librarians $15

DIGGING FOR WISDOM:

Archaeology as a resource in the religion class

The first archaeologists were little more than treasures hunters. Think Indiana Jones. During the past 100 years archaeology has matured to become a multi-disciplinary research project seeking to understand the past rather than acquire marvellous objects for the collections of Western imperial powers. Properly used, archaeology can enrich the religion class and contribute to the quest for spiritual wisdom.

Presenter: Dr Greg Jenks is Dean of Grafton Cathedral and a co-director of the Bethsaida Archaeology Project in Israel. His primary research interests are Nazareth in the first century and the coins from Bethsaida. Dr Jenks is also the Director of the Centre for Coins, Culture and Religious History, based at St John’s Cathedral in Brisbane.

ASLAN – ANGLICAN SCHOOLS LIBRARIANS’ ASSOCIATION NETWORK

In association with the ASC Professional Learning Community for Religious Educators, we are pleased to invite all Anglican Schools’ librarians and library technicians to join ASLAN.

Our first meeting will be held on the same day as our RE PD day – Digging for Wisdom.

We warmly encourage all librarians to join us for all or part of this special day.

We shall have a special networking meeting for librarians from 11:00 am – 12:15 pm.

Everyone is invited to lunch and morning tea.

Librarians will hear from colleagues about how they can resource and support religious educators in their schools. Eve James, Manager of the Roscoe Library will host a tour of the library and explain how schools can access resources.

“The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts.
